Media urged to defend affirmative action laws

ACCRA, The Ministry of Gender, Kids and Social Safety (MoGCSP) has mobilized journalists to champion the implementation of the Affirmative Motion (Gender Equality) Act 2024 (Act 1121), with the purpose of deepening public understanding and fostering a sustained nationwide dialogue on gender equality.

The initiative, held on the Ministry of Gender, Kids and Social Safety in Accra, was a part of the ministry’s broader collaboration with the media to advertise consciousness of the landmark legislation, which goals to make sure girls’s equal participation in decision-making and growth processes throughout all sectors.

Delivering the keynote deal with, Minister of Gender, Kids and Social Safety, Dr. Agnes Nah Momo Lartey, mentioned the passage of the Act was an essential milestone in Ghana’s pursuit of inclusive growth. She famous that the legislation displays the federal government’s dedication to equity, equal alternatives and the total participation of girls in political, financial, instructional and social fields.

“This laws establishes clear, legally binding measures to handle gender disparities whereas selling gender-sensitive insurance policies and accountability inside establishments,” Dr. Lartey mentioned. He careworn that profitable implementation requires widespread public consciousness, stakeholder cooperation and sustained nationwide dedication.

The Minister emphasised that the media performs an essential function in shaping public understanding on gender points and making certain accountability. She known as on media personnel to make use of their platforms to teach the general public, problem dangerous social norms and amplify the voices of girls and women. “The ministry will proceed to work with the media to make sure efficient public consciousness and enforcement of the legislation,” she added.

Talking on behalf of the Director-Normal, the Ministry’s Director-Normal for Administration, Mr. Ebenezer Chawei, reaffirmed the Ministry’s dedication to sustained media engagement. He praised the function of journalists in fostering knowledgeable public debate on nationwide points.

This system featured displays on the legislation’s enforcement technique, offering media members with perception into the enforcement framework, organizational obligations, and compliance mechanisms. A panel dialogue adopted, specializing in how the media can form public discourse, problem regressive norms, and amplify problems with gender equality.

The Affirmative Motion (Gender Equality) Act 2024 (Act 1121) is predicted to foster systemic change and the Ministry is dedicated to continued collaboration with the media to appreciate its provisions for all Ghanaians.
