France reiterated that “the current and way forward for the Sahara lies throughout the framework of Moroccan sovereignty” and outlined the exact measures to use the choice.

This place was introduced on Wednesday in Rabat by Jean-Noël Barrault, France’s Minister for Europe and Overseas Affairs, at a press convention following a gathering with Nasser Bourita, Minister of Overseas Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Residents.

Underscoring the strategic significance of the Sahara subject for France and the area, Mr. Barot recalled that consistent with the place of French President Emmanuel Macron in a letter to His Majesty King Mohammed VI on July 30, 2024, he acknowledged that “the current and way forward for this territory lies throughout the framework of Moroccan sovereignty.”

On this regard, the French Minister confirmed “France’s help for the autonomy plan proposed by Morocco as the one foundation for a good and sturdy negotiated political resolution.”

He added that “UN Safety Council decision 2797 is inside this logic” and that France “welcomes this constructive momentum and the resumption of direct consultations between all stakeholders below the autonomy plan”.

Relating to steps France has taken to implement this place, Barot stated the nation is increasing its “consular presence” and “cultural actions,” together with the opening of a visa software submission middle, the institution of the Alliance Française in Layoune, and the opening of a brand new college.
