Government launches National Trade Policy Review Committee

The federal government launched the Nationwide Commerce Coverage Assessment Committee to strengthen home commerce and enterprise actions.

On 12 Might 2026, on behalf of the Minister of Commerce, Agribusiness and Trade, Bernard Ayens, Director of Coverage Planning, Monitoring and Analysis, mentioned the Fee would evaluation present commerce coverage and suggest methods to assist native trade, improve exports and create jobs.

He mentioned commerce is a key driver of financial progress and the evaluation will assist handle challenges corresponding to fragmented international commerce and dependence on major merchandise.

The committee is predicted to seek the advice of with merchants, producers, farmers and personal sector stakeholders earlier than submitting its closing report.

Precedence areas recognized embody streamlining the levy system, making certain compliance with fisheries subsidies, creating a digital commerce framework for 2030, leveraging the African Continental Free Commerce Space Secretariat, and selling gender-sensitive MSME-inclusive commerce initiatives.
