The primary batch of 300 Ghanaians evacuated from South Africa arrived at Accra Worldwide Airport this afternoon (Wednesday, Could 27, 2026) in an emotional scene as relations and authorities officers gathered to greet them..

The evacuees, who had been stranded following latest violence in components of South Africa, landed on a chartered Ethiopian Airways flight round 3pm.

Many had been seen waving Ghanaian flags and singing songs as they entered their homeland after weeks of hysteria and worry following xenophobic assaults in opposition to Ghanaians and different African nationals.

Chief of Workers Julius Debra. Minister of International Affairs Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa; James Gaquier-Quaison, Deputy Minister of International Affairs; Nationwide Catastrophe Administration Group (NADMO) Chief Govt Officer Dr. Joseph Bikani Kuyong led the federal government delegation in welcoming the returnees.

They had been joined by officers from the ministry, the Ghana Immigration Service, Ghana Airports and different safety businesses, in addition to anxious households who had been ready for hours within the arrivals corridor of Terminal 2.

The ambiance within the arrival foyer was stuffed with pleasure and gratitude as a brief ceremony ensued.
